Whole Foods: $5 for a dozen Roses!

This is not exactly a "needed" item.  But, it's a great deal.   Get a dozen roses for only $5 bucks!
The sale is good October 27 - November 9.

I know that the Franklin TN store is doing this, I'm not sure of the others.

Whole Foods: $3.99/lb Grass Fed Beef and $1 Patties

This is a sale I've been waiting for! On Friday, September 3, Whole Foods will have grass fed beef for $3.99/lb and beef patties for $1 each.

This is an excellent deal for grass fed beef. Normally it's $6 dollars a pound.

This patti deal is good in the states of AL, GA, NC, SC, TN. The $3.99 beef is good nationwide while supplies last.

See ya there!

Nashville area Whole Foods: Complete Picnic Package for $20

I love this promotion! Starting tomorrow, September 1, you can get a great deal at the Nashville area Whole Foods on all the cookout foods you'll need for the upcoming Labor Day holiday.

For $20 bucks, you get:

8 quarter-pound burgers
8-pack of buns
8-pack of Cabot cheddar cheese slices
2 cantaloupes
2 1/2 -pound bucket of tailgate coleslaw.

We bought this package when they offered it over Memorial Day weekend, and it was fabulous! Everything is very fresh and wholesome. And, you certainly could not buy all these quality items individually for $20.

This is a local Nashville Event. The Cool Springs and Green Hills stores are the ones I know personally are participating. If you're not a local, you may check with your Whole Foods to see if they are running anything similar.

The promotion runs through Tuesday.

Whole Foods: 365 Peanut Butter .79 cents

Right now you can get the Everyday 365 Peanut Butter at Whole Foods for just .79 cents a jar.

They are priced at $1.79 each. Use the $1/1 Printable coupon found here.

You can print the coupon as many times as you like, but the register only allowed one. I had a nice cashier that did an override and let me get 2. But I probably would not push it past 2 per transaction.

Do You Know Where Your Food Comes From?

I watched a very interesting show on Oprah yesterday. It was about how our food is processed in America and how the process has changed so much over the last 20 years. They talked about the genetic engineering that is done with our everyday food (beef, chicken, grains, vegetables etc). And the amount of antibiotics, preservatives, and everything else that we cannot even pronounce that is put into our food. And the sugar! Sugar is in everything! No wonder we're getting fatter, and having more and more health problems.

There is a very interesting documentary out right now, called Food Inc.
It shows exactly how our food is raised and processed. I think it's a good opportunity to see things first hand and make informed decisions at the grocery store. The frugalista in me cannot bear to actually purchase DVDs normally but I did buy this one. Okay -- actually, I used a free Amazon gift card I earned from a Coinstar promotion. But, this dvd can also be checked out at the library for free! Or, most major video stores and Netflix are carrying it as well (I did not see it on Redbox though).

If you want to buy the dvd, Amazon has it on special for $9.99. This is a special Oprah deal and is only good till midnight Friday, January 29.

I WISH I could purchase all my food organic, natural, not pre-packaged. But sadly it is not always time efficient or financially feasable right now. But, that is what we must change in our nation. Why is it cheaper to buy big bag of potato chips rather than a 10lb bag of whole potatoes?? I will be making even more conscious food choices that can fit into my budget going forward.

Grocery Recap

My grocery shopping was so spread out over the week and amongst so many stores, that I just haven't taken the time to recap. Of course, my normal preferred budget of $40 is blown because of Thanksgiving. Just can't fit all the extras in that $40 bucks.

Something different this week for me, was I bought meat! Quite a bit of meat. I've had some comments and questions about the lack of meat in my menus and grocery recaps. So, I thought I'd address it a short and simply as possible. My family tries to live a mostly vegetarian lifestyle. I'm not opposed to meat, actually I love hamburgers! But,I really hate the meat industry and the inhumane way most farm animals are treated in the huge corporate farms and slaughterhouses. Since I'm not the type to picket the meat processing plants or protest at a cattlemen's convention (eh um.. PETA). I choose to do my protesting a little quieter, but with the most impact: I DON'T BUY THEIR PRODUCTS. I was given a gift card to Whole Foods so I used it to buy some chicken and beef from a store that has certain standards of it's meat suppliers. They have a 5 step labeling system that tells you how the animal was grown. 1 being the animal was not crated, caged or crowded. 5+ being the most ideal that the animal lived on the same farm it's whole life and no alterations were done. Of course, this meat is a lot more expensive than the meat you find on sale at any supermarket. That's why I don't buy it very often. It simply won't fit into my tight budget right now. Okay-- I'll get off my soapbox and proceed with the grocery wrap up.
