Weekly Shopping Wrap Up

I am really struggling lately to stay within our weekly budget. I'm trying to stock up on many good things when they are at a low price, and it's causing me to ultimately go over. Here's how I did this week:

Oh, and my picture doesn't reflect a second trip to Kroger this week, where I scored Springer Mountain Chicken on markdown and then used $1.50 coupons and a few other markdowns.

Kroger: See my list here
Total OOP: $51.04
Total Savings: $33.52
% Savings - 65%

Publix: See my list here

Total OOP: $ 28.94
Total Savings: $25.62
% Savings - 88%

Harris Teeter - Great deal on potatoes -- .99 for a 5 lb bag.
Total OOP: $2.20?? Estimated, I lost the receipt
Total Savings $6.00 estimated

Grand Total OOP: $82.18

So, I'm well over my $60 budget. But my percentage savings were really great! Got to figure out how to better balance the two. Any suggestions?

Weekly Shopping Wrap Up - Blown Budget Edition

Well, I just blew my grocery budget this week. Whole Foods does it to me everytime! I love that store, and I have a hard time controlling myself when I'm there. Then they had this awesome deal on grass-fed beef and their $20 Labor Day Promotion.

Here's the breakdown:

Publix: See my list here.
Total OOP: 33.87
Savings: 56%

Kroger
Total OOP: $14.87
Lost my receipt, so I don't know what the savings were.

Whole Foods
Total OOP: $65.43
Savings: 45%

Total for the week: $114.17 Holy Cow!!!
But, here's how I'm justifying it: I have 10 pounds of wholesome, grass-fed beef. That will last my family approximately 6 months because we eat meat sparingly.

Weekly Shopping Wrap up

It was a light week for me at the grocery stores, but that's always good for the budget.

A few of the things you see in the picture (Shout and Honest Kids Juice packs) are rainchecks from prior weeks sales. Because of my work schedule, I tend to shop at the end of the sale cycle. And sometimes they are out of a sale item. You should always ask for a raincheck. Publix is always very good about giving a raincheck, but often they will limit you to 6 same items (or less). Kroger can sometimes be a little harder to get a rain check out of, but I took the issue to the manager and he agreed.

Here are my weekly Grocery totals:

Kroger: $32.14 See my list w/ coupons here
Total Savings: $19.84
% Saved: 40%

Publix: $13.12 See my list w/coupons here
Total Savings $21.87
% Saved: 62%

Total for week: $45.26
Yea! 2 weeks under budget!

Weekly Shopping Wrap Up

I've been lax on posting my grocery shopping of late. Just so much going on, and not enough time to get everything done. This week I hit Publix only. They had alot of great produce deals going on and I had a $4 off $20 Produce coupon from a Kroger home mailer and a $1.50 off berries Publix coupon. After coupons and sales, I ended up with $51 dollars of fresh produce for $27.

I've been busy preparing and freezing much of it for later use.

The sale I shoppped at Publix is now over (sorry - just couldn't get it posted before) but several of the produce deals are still going on this week.

Total for week: $46.81

Weekly Grocery Wrap Up

This was a big week at the grocery store. I hadn't been grocery shopping in over 2 weeks! I've been sick and so much other stuff going on that I just couldn't go. Hubs did get a few things to tide us over and over the course of the 2 weeks spent about $40.

The items I am buying are evolving some now. My family is transitioning to new work schedules and summer camp that have different lunch requirements. I am searching for nutritious food that is easy , and doesn't require refrigeration or heating. Any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated!

One thing that is saving us on the grocery budget is our garden! We're actually eating out of our garden. So far, we've harvested lettuce, radishes, onions, and peas.

I shopped Kroger and Publix this week. I am not going to list out the Publix deals because the sale ended today so no one could use the information anyway. I will point out a couple of deals at Kroger that I did:

Kraft Salad Dressing
Sale Price: $1.66 ea
- .55/1 SS 5/2 or printable
= $1.11 ea
Receive a catalina coupon for $1 when you buy 2,
$2 when you buy 3 or
$3 when you buy 4
(if you buy 4, use the .55 coupon , it makes it .36 ea)

Harvestland Chicken (all natural chicken)
Sale: 25% off
Use $1 off $5 fresh chicken coupon from Kroger My Magazine "Taking On the World" home mailer.
Makes for a good deal
Total for week: $ 77.57 Not as bad as I expected. Hopefully the budget will all even out at the end of the month.

Weekly Shopping Wrap up

This week I did something a little different. I am moving toward trying to buy more organic, and local foods so I added the Farmer's Market to my shopping mix this week. My main focus for organic and all natural is meat and dairy. I've been purchasing free range eggs from a local farmer for a year now, and this week I added milk to my list. I purchased 3 gallons of milk from Hatcher Farm, a local dairy farm. Their milk is all natural and comes from cows who actually graze in a field and not forced to stand in a milk factory eating corn (which is not what cows are supposed to eat!)

Now, Hatcher milk is not cheap! I've been looking at it for a while, and pricing it in different stores and online. It averages $6 dollars a gallon! I'll let you pick yourself up off the floor.......
But, here's the deal I found: At the Franklin Farmer's market, if you purchase 3 gallons or more at a time, you can get it for $5 dollars a gallon. Still a huge difference from the average $2 a gallon a Kroger. But, I know exactly where this milk came from and feel confident about no hormones, antibiotics, etc in the milk my family is drinking. Now, my family cannot drink 3 gallons of milk before it goes bad. So I am freezing the extra for later. I've frozen milk before with no issue, you just have to pour off a little from the top of the jug so that the milk has room to expand when it freezes. I'm hoping this frugal experiment doesn't blow up in my face!

Total OOP: $22.50

I also shopped Whole Foods and purchased:
2lbs Organic Corn Meal from the bulk bins: .99/lb sale
1/2 lb Applegate Organic Herbed Turkey breast. $7.99/lb sale -- yes! that was a sale price!
** Note: it's expensive! But it is the best sliced turkey I've ever had!

Weekly Grocery Wrap Up - The Great Flood!

This week has been unlike anything I've ever experienced. We've been in our home since Saturday, unable to leave because of flood waters and washed out roads. I did finally venture out on Monday evening to survey the damage and grab some groceries. My budget is blown because of the extra water and other supplies we decided to get because of the flood and potential contaminated water supply (you can see some of our stockpile in the background of the picture).

I'm not going to bother to breakdown my purchases this week. The publix sale cycle ends today, to see my grocery list with coupon matches go here. We made a couple different trips at different times to the grocery and not all our purchases are in the picture.

Weekly Grocery Wrap Up

It's been a very busy day, so I'm going to only give the highlights of my shopping this week. And I must mention that I ran into a very uncoupon-friendly cashier at Publix today. I'm used to it at Kroger and other stores, but I never have a problem at Publix. She questioned almost every coupon I had and went over my Pedigree coupons with a fine tooth comb. The coupons made my dogfood free and I think she was determined not to let me have them for free. She even asked the CS Supervisor about it, and he said it was fine. She begrudgingly accepted them. Maybe she was just having a bad day, or had previously been burned on someone using coupons incorrectly, but she certainly made me feel like a criminal today. Oh well! I still got free dog food!

Weekly Grocery Wrap-up

It was a unimpressive sales/coupon week for me. Not alot got me excited, except for the cheap alumininum foil at Kroger and the .69 3 lb onions at Aldi's (yea, I may have went a little overboard with the onions, I can still smell them in the car)

Here is a short synopsis of what I got:

Kroger:Note: Kroger is having a Mega Sale this week. Buy 8 participating items, get $4.00 off at checkout. I did do this deal, but since I'm getting us off of processed food as much as possible, it was not as exciting for me as in the past.

Weekly Grocery Wrap Up

For a while now, I've been trying to pay cash only for my groceries to help me stay on track with the budget. I didn't do that this week, used the debit card. And, boy did I get in trouble! I've upped my budget to $60 a week, and I think that knowing that, along with a debit card, made me lose track of things. And of course I'm trying to only buy healthier and non-processed foods; although I've found that to be impossible, especially when it comes to snack items (there's only so much fruit you can make your kids eat)

Weekly Shopping Wrapup

This week is the beginning of less processed foods, more whole foods. Which of course, means more work for me in the kitchen. But after enduring the health issues that I and my family members have had lately, I think it's worth it. I've come to the conclusion that there is no way I will be able to make this transition on just $40 a week (my preferred budget) and this week I went over my real budget of $50 a week. I'm still going to try to not go over $50 but I've managed to squeeze an extra $10 into our weekly grocery budget for this purpose.

I hit 3 stores in one day, with my 4-year old in tow. Somehow we made it through alive.

Publix:
I didn't make it to the store until the last day of their sale, so alot of what I wanted was gone. I did manage to get a raincheck. Publix is pretty good about giving rainchecks, but I've noticed lately they are pretty strict on limiting the number of items you can get.
