Locals: Great Deals on Brand-New Dresses at Southern Thrift

Made a quick stop at Southern Thrift on Metroplex drive today and they have a bunch of brand-new women's plus-size dresses available. I found dresses starting at size 12 going all the way to 24. These dresses still have the original pricetags on them. Many came from stores like Talbots, some came from Ross.

The Southern Thrift price is at least half the price of the original retailer and many are marked with the 1/2 price color of the week, which means an additional 50% off the Southern Thrift price.

Not in the market for a dress? Check out their other items. There's always a treasure to find! Also, check out their website for coupons.

Happy Thrifting!

1/2 Price day at Goodwill on Saturday

Saturday is 1/2 price day for all Goodwill stores in Middle Tennessee. That means the whole store is 1/2 price! If you go, be prepared to face a crowd and stand in line at the checkouts. This is usually a very busy day. But often worth it, if you find a real treasure or just a great deal.

You can also pick up a Smart Card while you're there. Smart Cards are good for discounts at over 80 shops and restaurants around Middle Tennessee. They are $12 at Goodwill and the proceeds go to support Goodwill's mission.

Go here to find a Goodwill location.

My latest Thrift Store Find

How much would you pay for a Vera Bradley bag? $25 dollars, $50 dollars, Who is Vera Bradley and why are her bags so expensive??? Well, that last comment would have been my answer a few weeks ago.

I was recently browsing a local thrift store on my lunch break and a bag behind the glass counter caught my eye. I asked the clerk to look at it closer and she handed it to me. It was a large bag with 6 pockets on the inside and one on the outside, it was brown and peach with a floral motiff. And, it was 100% vegan (in other words, no part of it is made out of leather or other animal derived materials). It was perfect for me! Except for one thing...... It was $29 dollars! $29 dollars for a bag? At a thrift store no less? You must be kidding? I questioned the clerk on the price. She said it was priced that high because it was a Vera Bradley bag. Ugh! Labels...... I hate when they get in the way of a really good deal. So, I gave it back to the clerk. Nope, I was not going to pay extra because Vera Bradley made it. Even if it was the only bag/purse I had found in almost a year that I loved. It didn't matter that I could fit everything, including my 3 coupon wallets, in it. It didn't matter that it was the first product I had found in a long time that said "Made in the USA". Nope I wan't going to buy it.
So, I left, empty handed. I thought about it the rest of the day, that night, and the next morning. Then, I had a thought "My birthday is coming up..." and "I really wanted Wicked tickets but decided not to spend that much money when we are working so hard to become debt free and build our savings back up". " I could just spend $29 dollars for a birthday treat". So, I am now the proud owner of a Vera Bradley Bag. I did go to her website and discovered that bags that size were retailing for $70+. I guess I did get a deal in that sense. And, I'll be carrying that bag for a long, long time.

You never know what you might run across in a thrift store!

My Trip to the Ladies of Charity Sale

Today, E and I hit up the Ladies of Charity Sale. They had a little bit of everything. I was trying not to spend too much, so here's what I got:

4 VHS Tapes for E $1.00 each

3 Books for E $ .50 each

4 NEW Litter boxes $.50 each (to be donated to Nashville Humane Pet Food/Supply Bank)

2 Kitty bowls $.50 each (same as above)

1 two-side kitty dish $ .50 (same as above)

1 Cat Collar $.25 (same as above)

1 small cutting board $.50

1 King Henry VIII book* $2.00
____________________________
Total $11.75

* Now some of you may wonder why the King Henry book. I am currently watching the Showtime series "The Tudors" on DVD from the Library. I've become very enthralled in the story line. But I've been wondering, how much of the story is true? Are the characters real people? So, when I ran upon this book today and started flipping through it, I saw many pictures of the real people whom I've been watching. So, now I will use this as my refernce guide as I watch the series.

I thought it was a good sale. I was a little disappointed that I didn't find just a mind blowing deal. But, I always have very high expectations for this sale because a couple of years ago on my first trip there, I scored a set of brand-new 400 thread count king size sheets for $10.00! That'll never happen again.
