Buy Some Stamps, Save an Animal!

The US Postal Service has some great new stamps! Right now you can purchase stamps that have pictures of shelter animals.

Every year millions of dogs and cats are euthanized because of overcrowding at animal shelters. Most of these animals would have made wonderful pets if only given the chance.

Also, as part of the campaign launch Halo Pet Foods are giving a million pet meals to animal shelters around the country.

Go here to order your pet stamps.

Puppy Mill Bill Passed!!!

YEAH!!!!!!!
State bill SB 258/HB 386, the Tennessee Commercial Breeder Act to reform Tennessee puppy mills, passed nearly unanimously in the General Assembly.
This act will protect animals by placing regulations on breeders who house 20 or more female dogs or cats for breeding purposes.
This bill was prompted by several large-scale raids on puppy mills in Tennessee over the last few months, thus creating awareness for the need to set specific guidelines for the humane treatment of animals in commercial breeding facilities. The new bill also requires yearly inspections and licensing of these facilities.
It is my hope and prayer that this law will be enforced. Resources are scarce in a very tight state budget.
I have personally seen and held some of the animals that have been rescued from these awful puppy mills, and this legislation is the LEAST that we can do to help these poor dogs and cats. They are often sick, under-fed, and scared.
The bill takes effect January 1, 2010.

Adoptable pets on Comcast's "On Demand"

If you have Comcast Digital you can go to the "Local" section of your On Demand feature and see new cats and dogs available for adoption at Nashville Humane Association. The pets are updated every 2 weeks.
Go here for complete details on Comcast's ON Demand for pet adoptions.

Don't have Comcast (like me)? Go here for dogs and here for cats for NHA's website with lots of pictures and details on animals available for adoption.

I volunteer at NHA and there are lots of great animals just looking for a good home. NHA is a great temporary home though, lots of volunteers and a very caring staff. You are welcome to come by anytime during business hours and just look around and meet some of the great pets available.

Calling All Dog Lovers

If you love dogs, especially rescue dogs, you'll LOVE the movie "Hotel For Dogs".

It's just out on video. It stars Emma Roberts (you know, Julia's niece) but the real stars are all the sweet and funny dogs. It centers on two of my favorite topics, animal rescue and adoption of children.
We loved it and give it two paws up! You can rent it today for $1.00 at Redbox, or even better, sign up at Redbox's website and they will text you a code every Monday for a free rental.
